It's out!!!!
Alright, not yet until June 7. The first book in the Mirines & Myaegles Series, Wings Against the Sea, published by Eternal press would soon be available for your reading pleasure. It has been wonderful working with Eternal press; my cover artist, Dominique Dawne', as you can see, came up with this wonderful book cover I can't stop slobbering over.
Now what's this book about?
Wings Against the Sea is a story set on earth, but not earth as we know it. Basic laws such as gravity and oxygen for survival are the same, but the touch of unreality comes from the inhabitation of this world by winged peoples: myaegles; submarine peoples: mirines; vampiric creatures: dracs; a race of witches; sabre-toothed apes, and other unusual beings. This earth, nonetheless, is built on strong inner consistencies that are unshakeable.
Some of the underlying themes of this 26,000 word fantasy are: the enduring conflict between good and evil; the selflessness, and unifying power of love; the divisiveness of racial diversification; and the kamikaze triumph of evil over good.
Mikael is the young myaegle who has gone against his world by falling in love with Frea, a mirine, one of the inferior people. The myaegles are outraged; a child—gods’ forbid—must not be born out of the union but Frea is very near delivery, and she’s making her way steadily through the ancient and haunted forest, towards the sea.
Mikael, the only person who can save her, has been locked away in a dungeon slated for a horrible execution; and on her path is an array of fiendish foes: One of them is khi, another is Guirerra the terrible, and yet another, is a legion of sabre-toothed apes.…
Would Frea make it to the sea?—where safety even, is not guaranteed. Would she ever see Mikael again?
In this fast paced, adventure packed, epic fantasy, discover a breathtaking world that is as surreal as it is eerily familiar. A world where some men touch the clouds and others pick corals from the bottom of the sea.…
Guirerra stood, illuminated by the light of the souls—yellow fluorescent dots loosened from the beads around her neck, floating irresolutely. His fine grey hair had gone a startling white and he looked old and haggard. The boy who’d saved him stumbled to his feet, and for a while the two myaegles looked at each other, their minds impenetrable. Then slowly, Mikael lowered his mind shield—a sign of capitulation. Guirerra stepped back and did not go into Mikael’s mind as invited.
“Leave us be,” Mikael pleaded, and then inaudibly. “You owe your life to me.”
Guirerra pointed his blood bathed sword at Mikael, who immediately took a wary step backwards.
“I owe you nothing,” Guirerra began, his voice laden with anguish and shame. “You were just an instrument of khi, nothing more. And for that I grant you some time. Enough time to prepare, for the next time our eyes become four I’ll take your head off your body and fling it to the sea!” And with a soft whirr of his wings, Guirerra levitated. He hung briefly above the trees and favored Mikael with a look of utter hate, before twisting decidedly and flapping off into the night.
